Dancers interpret the lyrics, exploring love, resilience, and social justice themes. The work captures the essence of the American experience, celebrating the enduring power of soul music to unite and inspire.

Kansas City Ballet is a 30-member professional ballet company under the direction of Artistic Director Devon Carney and Executive Director David Gray.

Our professional company, the second company (comprised of KCB II and Trainees), professional dance school, and many community programs, seek to nurture and develop our artists, audiences, and students in the values inherent in the creativity, diversity, and joy of dance.

The Kansas City Ballet Community Engagement and Education Department reaches over 20,000 students and adults each year, and the Kansas City Ballet School provides dance training to over 2,000 students each year, at two locations.

Hedwig Dances creates, performs, and cultivates contemporary dance theater within communities of audiences, dancers, and artists with the goal of provoking human connection and wonder. To achieve this, Hedwig works in collaboration with prominent artists from a variety of mediums and cultural backgrounds, trains and mentors dance artists, and creates corporeal works of emotional insight and beauty — engaging its communities in a process of artistic creation and reflection.

Jacob's Pillow Choreographic Fellowship

I will embark on a new creation at Jacob’s Pillow with two longtime dance collaborators for the fellowship.

I am thrilled to share that I have been awarded a Jacob’s Pillow Choreogprhic Fellowship for 2023 with the Ann & Weston Hicks Program. Jacob’s Pillow is a sacred dance space I have long visited as a dance artist. I am overjoyed to go back to make a creation of my own and feel inspired by the long history and greats that have come before me.

The program is mentored by Dianne McIntyre and Risa Steinberg, two incredibly respected women in our field. To learn more about the award and program, visit here.

My Heart in Human Form (我心人形) is a live music, dance, and physical theater exploration of complicated relationships with the self-expressed through physical intimacy, tension, and athletic and dynamic movement and partnering. Set in a room with a ruby-carpeted floor and filament bulbs, our dancers share their stories of triumph and devastation through vignettes in this intimate setting. Asking out audience to sit, lounge, or move about the room, the eye of our audience is a wandering and interactive one with the dancers, musicians, and space.

Concept o4 will be sharing a brand new work at the San Francisco International Arts Festival @ Joe Goode Annex between

Founded in 2002, SFIAF celebrates the arts by bringing together a global community of artists and audiences and by presenting innovative projects that focus on increasing human awareness and understanding within and across cultures.

Our core values are based on principals of cultural and economic equity dedicated to coordinating the shared resources of multiple organizations to reach mutually beneficial goals. In addition to working with larger institutions, we place a high priority on the participation of smaller, culturally diverse entities whose communities have been left out of the prevailing American narrative. Supporting relationships between such organizations and artists is a primary commitment of SFIAF.
