Liminal Space

CHOREOGRAPHER

As the Artistic Fellow for Amy Seiwert’s Imagery, I am creating a new dance work for SKETCH 12. The work will premiere in July 2022 at Cowell Theater in San Francisco.

"A liminal space is a time between the 'what was' and the 'next.' It is a place of transition, a season of waiting, and not knowing. It is where all transformation occurs if we learn to wait and let it form us".

When approaching the theme of nostalgia, I gravitated toward one of the most impactful moments of my life, which was the loss of my father. His passing as a child was difficult, but the conflict for me as an adult is that his physical and emotional memory is eroding and fading with time; This experience feels like losing him twice. Liminal Space is cathartic processing of the impact this life event has had; my grief presents itself like a voluminous chamber, with many paths but lacking a final destination. Yet, memory is a sacred harbor that comforts us, and for all that have lost someone, this work is a dedication to keeping those memories aglow.
